Junk Removal Costs in Cambridge (2026)
Planning ranges for junk removal in Cambridge in 2026, and a plain account of what pushes a quote up or down. These are planning figures, not a price list. Every job is quoted firm from photos or a walk-through before anything is lifted.
Junk removal is priced on three things: how much room your material takes in the truck, how much it weighs, and how hard it is to get from where it is to where the truck is. In most of the Region, volume decides. In Cambridge, weight and access matter more than usual, because the city has more renovation debris, more scrap, more century houses with steep stairs and more farm properties with drive sheds than anywhere else nearby. A single washer from a Preston driveway is the bottom of the scale. A three-floor Galt estate, or a renovation's worth of plaster and concrete carried up a basement stair, is the top.
How loads are described
- Minimum pickup. One or two items — an appliance, a couch, a mattress. The crew still drives, carries and disposes, so there is a floor price.
- Quarter truck. A bedroom's worth, or a garage corner.
- Half truck. A typical garage, a small basement, one office.
- Full truck. A full basement, a post-war house's contents, a stacked renovation pile.
- Multiple loads. Galt estates, farm cleanouts, industrial units.
- By weight. Concrete, brick, shingles, tile, soil and plaster are priced by the load because disposal is charged that way.
Cambridge planning ranges, 2026
Planning ranges only — not quotes, not fixed prices. They include labour, the truck and standard disposal, and exclude HST. They assume normal access. Your firm quote replaces all of this.
| Job | Planning range | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Minimum pickup, one to two items | $120 - $220 | Driveway or ground-floor access |
| Single major appliance | $110 - $200 | Fridges, freezers and air conditioners include refrigerant handling |
| Cast iron tub or boiler | $200 - $450 | Weight and stairs; sometimes cut and carried in pieces |
| Quarter truck | $200 - $350 | One room or a garage corner |
| Half truck | $350 - $550 | Garage, small basement, one office |
| Full truck | $550 - $850 | Full basement, stacked renovation pile, unit of furniture |
| Basement and garage together, post-war house | $800 - $1,500 | Usually two loads; Preston and Hespeler access is good |
| Estate cleanout, bungalow or storey-and-a-half | $1,000 - $2,500 | One to two days; donations and keepsakes set aside first |
| Estate cleanout, three-floor Galt century home | $2,500 - $6,000 | Several days and loads; steep stairs and no driveway at the top |
| Renovation debris, mixed, per full load | $500 - $900 | Sorted into wood, drywall, metal and mixed streams |
| Concrete, brick, tile or shingles | $350 - $800 per load | By weight; smaller loads than furniture |
| Scrap metal, per half truck | $200 - $400 | Clean steel is at the low end; mixed with garbage is not |
| Office clear-out, per workstation | $40 - $90 | Cubicle systems at the top; freestanding desks at the bottom |
| Pallet racking, per bay | $60 - $150 | Unbolted, dismantled and loaded; slab patching not included |
| Industrial unit clear-out | $1,200 - $5,000+ | Walk-through required; racking, inventory, offices, lunchroom |
| Farm outbuilding cleanout, per truckload | $550 - $950 | Travel to Ayr or Branchton built in; hazardous items excluded |
| Shed teardown and haul | $350 - $900 | Contents extra if full |
| Hot tub removal | $400 - $800 | Cut and carried; electrical disconnected by an electrician first |
These figures are for planning in 2026. They are not binding, and a real number comes from photos or a walk-through, not from a table.
What pushes a Cambridge junk removal quote up
Weight. The Region's facilities charge by weight for many streams, and a truck half full of concrete, plaster or shingles costs more to tip than one full of couches. Renovation debris is quoted with that in mind.
Stairs and distance to the truck. A Galt basement reached by a steep turning stair, a third floor, or a downtown street with no driveway where the truck sits on the road all add carrying time. Time is most of the price.
Mixed loads. A pile with metal, drywall, garbage and electronics all together costs more to dispose of than the same material sorted. The crew sorts; pre-sorted piles move faster.
Refrigerant and electronics. Fridges, freezers, air conditioners and dehumidifiers need refrigerant recovery. Electronics need a separate stream. Both add handling.
Multi-day estates. Working room by room with a family is slower than clearing an empty house, and it is the right way to do an estate. The quote states the days.
Distance. Ayr, Branchton and rural North Dumfries are built into the quote up front.
Undisclosed extras. A garage cleanout that turns out to include the basement, or a stacked debris pile with a second one behind the shed, is re-quoted on the day before loading. Never a surprise on the invoice, but more than the original number.
What brings a quote down
Staging. A renovation pile stacked in the driveway or a garage bay is a fast load. The same material spread through a basement is not.
Sorting. Metal in one pile, clean wood in another, drywall stacked, electronics boxed, garbage bagged. The crew sorts anyway, but it is faster and the disposal is cheaper.
Combining. The basement and the garage on one day. Two units in the same building on one trip. A farm cleanout done as full trucks rather than half-empty ones.
Access. A driveway the truck can back into is the single biggest saving on a house job, and a dock is the same for a commercial one.
Using the Region for what fits. A single bulky item on the Region's collection schedule, or a carload you can take to the transfer site yourself, costs you time rather than money. The crew is for what will not wait, will not fit or is too heavy to carry alone.
Why there is no flat rate
A price per item would be simple and it would be wrong for half of Cambridge. The same fridge costs the crew ten minutes from a Hespeler driveway and forty from a Galt basement with a turning stair and a truck on the road. Quoting on volume, weight and access means people with easy jobs are not subsidising people with hard ones, and the number you approve is the number you pay.
How to compare junk removal quotes
- Is labour included, or is it a truck-only price?
- Is disposal included, or is the tipping fee added after? With heavy material this matters most.
- Is the number firm once the crew has seen the pile, or is it a starting point?
- What happens if there is more than you described? The honest answer is a revised number before loading, not after.
- Where does it go? Metal, electronics, appliances, clean wood and drywall have proper streams; a crew that dumps everything as garbage is paying more or cutting a corner.
- Will they refuse hazardous material, or take anything? A crew that will take your paint cans and old oil is not doing you a favour.
- Proof of liability insurance and WSIB coverage. Ask everyone, including us.
Consumer Protection Ontario explains your rights when a service is estimated one way and billed another. What the Region of Waterloo accepts, separates and charges for at its facilities is set by the Region and changes from time to time; the crew works to the current rules, and hazardous materials are never on the truck.
Frequently asked questions
What does an estate cleanout cost in Cambridge?
As a planning range, a post-war bungalow or storey-and-a-half in Preston or Hespeler commonly lands around $1,000 to $2,500 before tax over one or two days. A three-floor Galt century home with a full basement, attic and outbuilding is typically $2,500 to $6,000 over several days. Both depend on how much the family has already removed. Not a quote.
What does renovation debris removal cost?
A mixed renovation load — cabinets, drywall, lumber, flooring — is typically in the $500 to $900 planning range per full truck, sorted. Concrete, brick, tile and shingles are priced by weight at roughly $350 to $800 per load, and those loads are smaller because the material is dense. The number is firm once the crew sees the pile.
Is there a minimum charge?
Yes. Even one item means a crew, a truck, a trip and a disposal fee, so there is a floor in the $120 to $220 planning range for a single easy pickup. Adding a few more items to the same visit costs little more.
Do the ranges include HST and disposal?
They include labour, the truck and standard disposal at the Region's facilities. They exclude HST, shown separately on the quote, and heavy-material loads are quoted by weight rather than volume, which is stated when you book.
Why would the price change on the day?
Only if the pile is different from what was described — a garage cleanout that turns out to include the basement, a debris pile that has a second one behind it, or a shed that is full when it was described as empty. The crew gives you the revised number before loading anything extra, and you decide.
Can you give me a price over the phone?
With photos, usually yes, and it is firm unless the pile changes. For estates, farm properties and industrial units the crew does a walk-through because photographs do not show how full a basement or a drive shed really is. Nobody should give you a firm price for a cleanout they have not seen in some form.
